Dr. Montoya did her Bachelor's degree in Linguistics and Hispanic Literature at the Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla, in Mexico. Then she did her Ph.D. in Spanish at the University of Knoxville, Tennessee, graduating in 2002. Since then she has worked at Midwestern State University. In 2022, she celebrated her 20th. anniversary at MSUTexas; but her experience extends beyond those years. She started teaching high school in Mexico, she taught for 8 years at the American School of Puebla, and then for 6 years she taught Spanish as a graduate teaching assistant in Tennessee (Go Vols!).
She enjoys meeting new students every year and getting involved in different activities on campus. Currently she is the proud advisor of the Spanish Club and in the past she has been the advisor of the Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).
When it comes to research Dr. Montoya enjoys studying literary works as cultural/historical products; hence, she brings to her research historical and sociological approaches. Some of her favorite topics are Women's Literature in Spain and Latin America, Contemporary Mexican and Spanish Novel, and Socio-cultural events.
In her personal time she enjoys traveling, some of her most memorable trips have been to Cuba, Spain, Turkey, Argentine, and Palestine. She also likes cooking, gardening, and spending time with her cats and friends.
