Bio

Francisco Rendon, M.M.

Assistant Professor of Theatre – Voice

Midwestern State University

Francisco Rendon is a performer, director, and educator with more than two decades of experience in professional theatre and vocal instruction. He holds both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Voice Performance from Texas Tech University, where he studied with Eric Stoklossa and Karl Dent.

At Midwestern State University, Rendon teaches voice and diction, applied voice, and musical theatre performance, bringing together his training in classical voice and his extensive career on the musical theatre stage. His teaching emphasizes vocal health, stylistic versatility, and dramaturgical awareness, encouraging students to think vocally about character and dramatically about song. He is committed to empowering young artists with the technical tools and interpretive courage needed to thrive in both traditional and contemporary repertoires.

Rendon’s directing and performance credits span opera, operetta, and musical theatre, with roles ranging from Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann to Curly in Oklahoma! and Gomez in The Addams Family. As a stage and music director, he has led productions such as Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, Singin’ in the Rain, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights with Moonlight Musicals, where he also served in administrative leadership. His professional engagements include appearances with the Crested Butte Music Festival, St. Petersburg Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, and Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre.

A dedicated teacher, Rendon has taught at the University of Texas Permian Basin, Texas Tech University, and throughout Texas public schools and arts academies. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers in regional theatre, national tours, and emerging professional markets in New York, Chicago, South Florida, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Austin.

Guided by the philosophy that “every voice is worthy of being heard,” Rendon fosters an inclusive, collaborative studio environment where students are encouraged to take artistic risks, explore their individuality, and cultivate resilience as performers. His mission is not only to help students become excellent singers, but also thoughtful, versatile, and authentic artists prepared to contribute meaningfully to a competitive and evolving industry.
