Jackson Pearson is an Assistant Professor of History at MSU. He teaches courses on American History, Texas History, North American Borderlands, and historical research and writing methods. He earned his PhD in American History from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas in 2024. Prior to attending TCU, he earned his BSE in History Secondary Education and MA in American History from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. His research examines the interplay of borderlands commercial markets and geopolitical influence in the Louisiana-Texas borderlands during the late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth centuries when Spain and the United States struggled to define Louisiana's boundaries. He is the author of four book chapters pertaining to his research. He is also the co-author of Images and Stories of TCU's First 100 Years, 1873-1973 with Gene Allen Smith which was published as part of TCU's sesquicentennial celebrations in 2023. During the 2024-2025 academic year, he was a RISE 100 Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington where he helped complete "Texas in Turmoil: Mapping Interethnic Violence in Texas, 1821-1879." This digital humanities project aims to better our historical understanding of Texas's early modern past by mapping violent encounters between peoples in Texas.
