Melissa Laussmann has a MA in English, BA in English, and AA in Accounting. She is the academic counselor for Computer Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Pre-Professionals in McCoy College. Laussmann adjuncts for the English department teaching Academic Research & Writing. She serves as a member of the Health Professionals Advisory Committee, Joint Admissions Medical Program, Academic Advising Council, College Council, and Texas Academic Advising Network.

Ms. Laussmann is an award-winning poet and a Touchstone Award nominee. She has also won awards for academic research. Her work has been published in numerous journals online and in print. Academic awards include "Outstanding Graduate Woman of the Year" and "Outstanding English Student."
