Bio

I am an Endowed Associate Professor at Midwestern State University and a systems engineer specializing in automation, robotics, control systems, and immersive technologies. My career features a distinct integration of nine years of academic research and pedagogy with seven years of industrial engineering leadership. This extensive background allows me to translate complex theoretical engineering frameworks into scalable, high-utility industrial applications, establishing a robust link between academic innovations and operational industry needs.

My academic foundation spans multiple engineering disciplines, culminating in a Ph.D. and Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of South Alabama, where my research focused on Digital Twins, Artificial Intelligence, and immersive environments. I also hold an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Newcastle University and a B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University. As an active researcher, I investigate the applications of the Metaverse, machine learning, and assistive devices in healthcare and industrial settings. To date, my scholarly portfolio includes two peer-reviewed books and over 55 research publications with more than 540 citations. Notably, my doctoral research focused on developing virtual reality architectures and virtual patient systems to identify and mitigate unconscious bias in medical training clinical assessments.

In the industrial sector, I have managed multidisciplinary engineering projects across manufacturing, naval systems, and construction automation for multi-billion-dollar organizations. My corporate leadership experience includes serving as Engineering Assistant Manager at Hyundai Glovis, Senior Maintenance Engineer at Hyundai Mobis, and Lead Control Systems Engineer at Thermo Systems, alongside engineering critical electrical system solutions for commercial and naval vessels at Austal USA. My technical competencies include Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML modeling, PLC ladder logic, SCADA validation, HMI integration, and robotic arm programming. Committed to engineering education, I have mentored over 48 undergraduate and graduate students, supervised more than 20 capstone design projects, and regularly serve as an expert peer reviewer for prominent IEEE journals and international conferences.
