LATE PENALTY (10 points out of 100)

Late penalty for DROP BOX due dates is 10 points out of 100 even if D2L says lateness is by a minute or less. All late work is due before 11:59 PM Monday December 9. Make up Ryan’s Questions no later than Monday December 9. Drop boxes for all assignments will be locked as of 2:00 AM December 10.

ESSAYS 1 & 2: Each essay is THREE description paragraphs

TWO of the description paragraphs must pertain to ONE of the two movies; ONE description paragraph must pertain to the other (you choose which).

Specific Details may come from movies or imagination

What we see in the movie is not the only inspiration for descriptive details in description paragraphs. Students may rely on their imagination.

OPTION: Getting My Input – I am the only person who can see your writing.

You have the option of getting my input on a draft of your paragraph BEFORE submitting the final assignment to the drop box on the due date. In CONTENT, click on the GETTING MY INPUT modules. Then click on the arrow next to the title of the discussion forum and topic. It will bring up View Topic and a textbox into which you can type directly or copy and paste from your own document. Don’t use the attachment function. I can only reply to what I see in the text box.

Answer Ryan’s Question:  Student’s answer Ryan’s question with a brief paragraph; then they respond to another student’s answer with a brief paragraph. Both paragraphs are required (a point for each); there are 10 possible points for 10 percent of the semester grade. Here are the percentage equivalents: the first Ryan’s Question is for a 60 (or 55 if students do not respond to another student’s answer); the second for 70 (or 65), the third for an 80 (or 75), the fourth for a 90 (or 85), and the fifth for a 100 (or a 95). Answering Ryan’s Questions is REQUIRED. To fail to do so means a “0” (no points) for 10 percent of the semester grade. The link will be provided in a NEWS ITEM on scheduled Fridays.

Videos: Students should watch the videos Dr. Fields and Mr. Samuelson have provided about describable scenes and moments in the movies. They are available in D2L in CONTENT in the module RSC TEMPEST & FORBIDDEN PLANET and in the module TAYMOR’S TEMPEST & KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE.

Drop Box Due Dates: Getting my input on a paragraph is NOT the same thing as turning in your assignment for a grade. You still need to submit your assignment on the due date to the drop box in order for it to count and be graded.

GRADES ARE NOT ROUNDED UP - D2L Final Calculated Grade is the semester grade.

Here are the numeric-letter values: 100-90 (A), 89-80 (B), 79-70 (C), 69-60 (D), 59-0 (F). An 89.9 is a B; 79.9 is a C; 69.9 is a D; and 59.9 is an F.

AVOIDING ACADEMIC DISHONETY: I am all the AI you need for this course.

Do not succumb to temptation by using AI or something you found on the internet. A document which relies on AI or borrows from sources I have not approved is a “0” (an F). Please think of ME (your instructor) as your AI. I am not even remotely all-knowing nor do I possess “machine knowledge.” But I do know what you need for this course.

Students with disabilities:

Note: You may not submit a paper for a grade in this class that already has been (or will be) submitted for a grade in another course, unless you obtain the explicit written permission of me and the other instructor involved in advance.

Plagiarism is the use of someone else's thoughts, words, ideas, or lines of argument in your own work without appropriate documentation (a parenthetical citation at the end and a listing in "Works Cited")-whether you use that material in a quote, paraphrase, or summary. It is a theft of intellectual property and will not be tolerated, whether intentional or not.

Student Honor Creed

As an MSU Student, I pledge not to lie, cheat, steal, or help anyone else do so."

As students at MSU, we recognize that any great society must be composed of empowered, responsible citizens. We also recognize universities play an important role in helping mold these responsible citizens. We believe students themselves play an important part in developing responsible citizenship by maintaining a community where integrity and honorable character are the norm, not the exception.

Thus, We, the Students of Midwestern State University, resolve to uphold the honor of the University by affirming our commitment to complete academic honesty. We resolve not only to be honest but also to hold our peers accountable for complete honesty in all university matters.

We consider it dishonest to ask for, give, or receive help in examinations or quizzes, to use any unauthorized material in examinations, or to present, as one's own, work or ideas which are not entirely one's own. We recognize that any instructor has the right to expect that all student work is honest, original work. We accept and acknowledge that responsibility for lying, cheating, stealing, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty fundamentally rests within each individual student.

We expect of ourselves academic integrity, personal professionalism, and ethical character. We appreciate steps taken by University officials to protect the honor of the University against any who would disgrace the MSU student body by violating the spirit of this creed.

Written and adopted by the 2002-2003 MSU Student Senate.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal anti-discrimination statute that provides comprehensive civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, this legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities. If you believe you have a disability requiring an accommodation, please contact the Disability Support Services in Room 168 of the Clark Student Center, (940) 397-4140.

The professor considers this classroom to be a place where you will be treated with respect as a human being - regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, political beliefs, age, or ability. Additionally, diversity of thought is appreciated and encouraged, provided you can agree to disagree. It is the professor's expectation that ALL students consider the classroom a safe environment.

All instructors in the Department have voicemail in their offices and MSUTexas e-mail addresses. Make sure you add your instructor's phone number and e-mail address to both email and cell phone lists of contacts.
