I retired on March 31, 2011 from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Last position held was the Director of the Adolescent Forensic Program (AFP) at North Texas State Hospital on the Vernon, Texas campus. The AFP operates approximately 92 beds with a funded capacity of 77. The facility treats adolescents (ages 13-17) throughout the State of Texas, which meet the admission criteria as set forth in the Texas Administrative Code. The majority of the admissions are voluntary as a condition of probation, for adolescents with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders, who are given a final treatment option before being placed in the State’s Juvenile Corrections system. Another population served is court referred for issues of fitness to precede in criminal proceeding or responsibility for criminal conduct in violent felony crimes. The final admission type is patients that are deemed to be manifestly dangerous under appropriate rules, and in need of a secured treatment setting.

I currently work part-time as an Adjunct Instructor. Instructing in the Data Analysis course for the Wilson School of Nursing, College of Health Sciences and Human Services, Midwestern State University.
